SWEET JESU-CRISTO THE PROJECT IS DONE. (I had a great time working with y'all). :) Namaste, Cassie Jones FINAL UPDATE!!!!

Hello Group!
Danielle and I finished putting together the project tonight and it looks fab! Cassie J. did not hear back from anyone about their opinions on the intro, so Danielle and I edited it and created the final version which reads great and really fits our voice. Danielle and I will go over how much we spent total (for the binder, and since we printed at school) but it shouldn't be more than a dollar or so per person. I will also, sometime in the near future, try and create a PDF version of the project for everyone to have a copy of.

Ta Ta for now!

Cassi D.

Hey Cassie,
This is some info about Hikmet and Brooks that you could use for the introduction. :)

The most current edition of the anthology is posted in the files section. It is still missing Catcher in the Rye and all the pretty Cover stuff and table of contents. However, it isn't in order yet. Still need to do that...

P.S. Penny still hasn't had her puppies yet. But I think tonight will be the night...

I still haven't found that paper, but I wrote a little bit to turn in so far. I'll keep looking and if I don't find it, I'll just turn something else in.

In the mean time, here's a poem for you all to read:

[Through Space]

I pull the trigger,
Releasing the beauty of a smoky rose—
Piercing the airs flesh,
And striking down time.

I, currently standing here,
See the eyes—
Guiding me through space,
Placing the body on solid ground.

Trees relinquish leafs of red and yellow,
Gliding softly to their final resting home—
Birds no longer chirp,
For the final day has come.

Cassi Deremo's Literature for the Anthology:

Let me know if I can help type up anything else :)

Checklist of work that needs to be done:

Purpose: To give you hands-on practice with the major phases of a book project and to prepare you for working on your chapbook later on in the semester. Producing the anthology will introduce you to such things as

  • Concept development: what kind of literary anthology appeals to you? What might it include? What are your criteria for inclusion? How will you organize the contents? Will it feature one genre or several?
  • The major parts of a book (see the handouts in the “Group Anthology” folder).
  • A marketing plan: who is the audience for your anthology? How will you reach those readers (here’s where your sample ad comes in)? What’s your group’s Mission Statement or Statement of Artistic Purpose?
  • Obtaining rights and permissions.

Evaluation: I will evaluate your project on its overall concept, design, and execution. Points will be subtracted for sloppy editing, of course, and added for genius. You will receive a group grade on the project, which means the grade for all is the grade for each. The most effectively you plan your time together to make the best use of it and each other, the fewer meetings outside class you’ll need to schedule and the more enjoyable you’ll probably find the process. It will be due before Spring Break. Good luck!

Your anthology should include the following items (X = Done):
  • cover (can use original art or borrowed imagery) X
  • half-title page X
  • title page X
  • colophon X
  • copyright page (copyright symbol, ISBN and LOC numbers, edition info) X
  • dedication X
  • acknowledgments & permissions X
  • introduction or preface (a big-point item)
  • table of contents
  • selections (poetry? prose only? essays?) From a variety of sources; can be NEATLY reproduced or retyped X

Support materials will include:

  • marketing plan X
  • your publishing company’s motto or mission statement X
  • at least one ad for a trade magazine such Publisher’s Weekly or a journal of your choice X
  • one letter requesting permission from one primary source for use of the selection X

Hello Group!

I'm not sure if everyone received the other Cassie's email, but we need to talk today in class about what times we plan on meeting to get this project done. I will also be gone for the break so if we can plan on finishing this before then that would be ideal. See everyone soon!

Wow, that makes me the Bad Group Member!!! Ahhh!!! lol

So, I found a book that actually has banned poetry, but we'd have to buy it to see it..Here's a link though to the site:

I also found this link about a little girl who wrote a poem and got kicked out of her school for what she wrote about Darwin and Christopher Columbus being slave owners, etc...

White Nationalism Put U In Bondage

White nationalism is what put you in bondage
Pirate and vampires like Columbus, Morgan, and Darwin
Drank the blood of the sheep, trampled all over them with
Steel, tricks and deceit.
Nothing has changed take a look in our streets
The mis-education of she and Hegro - leaves you on your knee2grow
Black lands taken from your hands, by vampires with no remorse
They took the gold, the wisdom and all of the storytellers
They took the black women, with the black man weak
Made to watch as they changed the paradigm
Of our village
They killed the blind, they killed the lazy, they went
So far as to kill the unborn baby
Yeah White nationalism is what put you in bondage
Pirates and vampires like Columbus, Morgan, and Darwin
They drank the blood of the sheep, trampled all over them with
Steel laden feet, throw in the tricks alcohol and deceit.
Nothing has changed take a look at our streets.

We need to add this to our collection for sure!!! lol =)

Update! Thursday, February 11th

Hello again,
So since class was canceled, Lauren, Cassandra, and I got together and found a couple more poets to consider for the anthology and have posted them in the discussion section. We basically have enough stories to work worth to consider for the anthology so we really need to focus on finding poetry or plays and go from there. Don't worry if it fits into our categories of violence, racism religion, etc., just find literature and go from there!
Cheers!

Hi everyone,

I felt I'd write something, so here goes. =)

Here's something I got on the seven Deadly Sins, if we decide to write on that:

The Seven Deadly Sins, also known as the Capital Vices or Cardinal Sins, is a classification of the most objectionable vices which has been used since early Catholic times to educate and instruct followers concerning (immoral) fallen man's tendency to sin. The final version of the list consists of wrath, greed, sloth, pride, lust, envy, and gluttony.

The Catholic Church divided sin into two principal categories: "Venial sins", which are relatively minor, and could be forgiven through any Sacramentals or Sacraments of the church, and the more severe "Capital" or Mortal sins. Mortal sins destroyed the life of grace, and created the threat of eternal damnation unless either absolved through the sacrament of Confession, or forgiven through perfect contrition on the part of the penitent.
